Simpson actively sought advice from Ross, drawing on her extensive performance experience. ”Mama D always has the best advice,” Ashlee told People. “I think her best advice is staying true to yourself, staying true to your instincts.” Ross’s own history performing in Las Vegas, including previous engagements at the Venetian, has been a valuable resource for Simpson as she prepares for her return to solo performances after nearly two decades.
I Am Me, named after Simpson’s 2005 album, marks her return to solo shows. “I haven’t played a full set in like 20 years, so I’m so excited,” she said. “This just felt like the right prospect to dive back into it and relive this old music.”
Family support extends beyond Ross. Simpson’s 10-year-old daughter, Jagger, has become a source of inspiration and encouragement, frequently listening to Simpson’s older songs with her friends. “She’s always listening to ‘L.O.V.E.’ and stuff with her friends,” Ashlee shared. “The fact that my daughter and her friends are revisiting this music, I’m like, ‘oh my gosh, what a moment.'”
