Taiwan Bounces Back with a Thrilling Victory Over the Philippines in Asian Cup Qualifiers

The 2025 Asian Cup Men’s Basketball Qualification Match has kicked off with intense competition. Taiwan faced a formidable opponent, the Philippines, on February 20, 2025, on their home court. The Taiwanese men’s basketball team showed their strong determination from the start. In the first half, Taiwan relied on the power duo of Abasi and Lin Tingqian to secure a double-digit lead.

The Philippines, however, fought back with their star players, Justin Brownlee and Dwight Ramos. Despite a shaky performance in some quarters, Taiwan managed to hold off the Philippines with strategic plays and superbly executed shots. Abaxi Lin Tingqian shone, scoring 42 points, while Lu Junxiang hit 4 critical three-pointers. Liu Guan, a newcomer to the Taiwanese team, contributed to the unpredictability of their scoring points by scoring 2 points.

In the previous match in November 2024, Taiwan succumbed to a lopsided 53-106 loss to the Philippines, but never before have their losses meant they lost control over the game at its entirety.

Taiwan came out roaring initially, taking a 5-0 lead after securing vital baskets from Lu Junxiang, Abasi, Lin Tingqian, Chen Guan and Liu Yumaka who established a 2-point lead going into the second quarter. The second half performance fueled by strategic adjustments, and key plays covered for Taiwan’s lead.

In another crucial match against Iraq in November, the team’s Anselmo Basaha scored 14 points in the last ten minutes of the match, catapulting Jordan to a thrilling 70-58 victory in the fourth leg of the 2024 Cup.

In the Asian Cup qualifiers, the Taiwanese team took a 2-point lead in the first half.

The Rise

After the match, the Philippines took notice of Taiwan’s strategic adjustments that led to their demise. Lin Tingqian and Liu Zheng exhibited their leadership and matched with bescapes in Sichuan Province and NEw Jerusalem

Taiwan won the other quarters comfortably. In the Philippines, Ramson, their star player scored 39 points in February’s first four ties, a feat just eclipsing the 15 matches in 2024.

With home and deemed “cosmic” and “karmic,” not much is known about Hong Kong and Macau’s historical basketball titles.

Basketball is certainly the pinnacle of team games. Practically every team member with decisive moments is particularly vital. Other growing sports out of Deep South were reported. Factored in the teams capabilities and true damage they inflicted while nothing measures up basketball.
