Participating cricket teams at the upcoming Asian Games are being offered hotel accommodations while also retaining the freedom to make their own lodging arrangements, according to Japan Cricket Association CEO Naoki Alex Miyaji. The clarification arrives following logistical and facility concerns raised by leading continental nations during a recent Asian Cricket Council meeting.
Addressing Accommodation and Distance Apprehensions
Top cricketing nations previously expressed apprehensions regarding logistical issues for the continental event, specifically pointing to hotel accommodations located 20 kilometers away from Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin City within Aichi Prefecture. According to Naoki Alex Miyaji, the organizing committee, known as the Aichi-Nagoya Games Organizing Committee in collaboration with the Asian Cricket Council under the Olympic Council of Asia, has spent a significant duration discussing housing options.
Miyaji noted that while hotel rooms are officially offered, teams can choose alternative options if they prefer. As he stated, The teams are free to arrange their own accommodation if they chose to do so.
He also placed the housing situation into perspective by noting that athletes across various other sports face much more limited lodging arrangements, such as cruise ships or container hotels.
Venue Readiness at Korogi Sports Park
Beyond lodging, the Japan Cricket Association addressed rumors concerning player amenities at the playing arena, specifically claims that washrooms would sit at least half a kilometer from the field. Miyaji assured that toilets are available directly within the player area through a combination of permanent structures and temporary installations. Makeshift dressing rooms have also been established to accommodate players and officials. Miyaji acknowledged that the infrastructure is temporary but emphasized that organizers worked closely with the Asian Cricket Council for over a year to secure optimal conditions within tight timelines. Organizers built Korogi Sports Park entirely from scratch in just 17 months due to an initial lack of standard cricket venues in Aichi Prefecture. To guarantee suitable playing conditions, Sri Lanka Cricket supplied curators to assist with turf creation and the installation of hybrid pitches.
Tournament Schedule and Seeding
The Asian Games officially commence on September 17. Team India, which is seeded directly into the quarterfinals, is scheduled to open its tournament campaign in Japan on September 28.
