“Undropped Kit” Aims to Tackle Why Teenage Girls Are Leaving Sports
Burnley, UK – A groundbreaking initiative is underway to address a concerning trend: the alarming rate at which teenage girls drop out of sports. ASICS, in collaboration with Inclusive Sportswear and mental health charity Mind, has unveiled the “Undropped Kit,” a revolutionary PE kit designed with direct input from UK teenagers.
The impetus behind this project stems from startling research. A study commissioned by ASICS revealed that a staggering 73% of girls aged 14 to 16 woudl be more inclined to participate in physical education if their kit offered greater comfort. The current state of PE attire clearly isn’t cutting it, with only 12% of UK girls expressing complete satisfaction.
The girls voiced a multitude of concerns, including a lack of choice, unsuitable fabrics, ill-fitting designs, limited adaptability to different weather conditions, anxieties surrounding periods, and the visibility of sweat.Nearly two-thirds of those surveyed believe it’s high time for a complete kit overhaul.
The “Undropped Kit” directly confronts these issues.designed to accommodate diverse body shapes, weather conditions, and personal preferences, the kit has undergone rigorous testing by secondary school students at Burnley high School. This location was strategically chosen, as Sport England has identified the area as having one of the lowest rates of PE participation in the country.
This initiative is part of a larger movement to retain teenage girls in sports
