Aston Martin Aims for IMSA Glory at Iconic Road America
Aston Martin and The heart of Racing (THOR) Team are gearing up for a significant challenge at the iconic Road America circuit this weekend,as they compete in the Motul Sportscar Grand Prix of Road America. This marks Round 8 of the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and the team is persistent to bolster its position in the highly competitive GTD title fight.
Vantage GT3 Returns to a Track of Success
The formidable Aston Martin Vantage GT3, the latest iteration of the marque’s most accomplished racing car, will once again be piloted by the Heart of Racing team in the IMSA series. This extraordinary machine shares its core mechanical architecture with the ultra-luxury vantage road car, featuring Aston Martin’s renowned bonded aluminium chassis and a potent twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine.Road America holds a special place in the recent history of the Vantage and THOR team, having witnessed several notable successes. In 2023, Aston Martin works drivers Ross Gunn (GBR) and Alex Riberas (ESP) – who are now integral to the Valkyrie racing programmes in IMSA and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) respectively – secured a dominant pole position and victory in the GTD Pro category. last year, the THOR team’s Vantage GT3 also achieved a front-row start in the GTD class, with zacharie Robichon (CAN) at the helm.
Gamble Returns, Stevenson Pushes for championship lead
This weekend’s event sees the return of aston Martin works driver Tom Gamble (GBR) to the #27 Vantage GT3. Gamble had to miss the previous race at Canadian tire Motorsports Park due to a prior commitment with the Valkyrie in the WEC at Interlagos. He will partner with Casper stevenson (GBR), who was joined by roman De Angelis (CAN) in Canada. Stevenson currently sits third in the Drivers’ Championship with four races remaining in the season.
The Heart of Racing Team and Aston Martin are firmly focused on contending for both the GTD Teams’ and Manufacturers’ crowns.Their strong performance at Watkins Glen provided valuable data and lessons that the team believes are directly transferable to the remaining circuits on the IMSA calendar.
“The data we’ve gathered and the lessons learned at Watkins Glen can be applied to all of the remaining events as the circuits are all of the ‘traditional North American road course’ type,” stated a representative from the Aston Martin THOR team. “We want to continue to build Valkyrie’s competitiveness across the final three events of the IMSA season. We look forward to seeing how Valkyrie and the Aston Martin THOR Team will use this to keep building momentum.”
The Motul Sportscar Grand Prix of Road America is scheduled to commence at 1410 local time (1910 BST) on Sunday, 3 august 2025. Fans worldwide can catch the action live on IMSA TV and the IMSA YouTube channel, and also through selected national broadcasters.
