Astoria Hit-and-Run: Police Seek Bekim Fiseku After Cyclist Fatality
Hit-and-Run Incident in Astoria, Queens
Police have identified Bekim Fiseku, 53, as a man wanted for a hit-and-run incident that killed cyclist Amanda Servedio, 36, in Astoria, Queens. The crash occurred as the pickup truck, which was fleeing police, struck Servedio at the intersection of 37th Street and 34th Avenue.
Surveillance footage captured the moment when the truck raced through the intersection, causing Servedio and her bike to become airborne and land on a parked car. She later died at Elmhurst Hospital, just two blocks from her home.
The pickup truck was reportedly linked to a burglary at a construction site. When police tried to stop the vehicle, the driver fled. The truck was later found abandoned on Newtown Road, and its occupants escaped on foot.
A “ghost bike” was placed at the accident site to honor Servedio’s memory. Elected officials criticized police chases in residential areas, noting the truck’s license plate had been associated with 80 camera violations over the past two years.
Police urge anyone with information to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit tips online. All calls are confidential.
