Atlanta Chef Says Fired Employee Returned with Gun, Threatening His Life
ATLANTA – A popular Atlanta caterer says he’s lucky to be alive after a terrifying encounter with a former employee who allegedly returned to the workplace armed with a gun.Tim Morgan, owner of Tim Morgan Catering, told FOX 5 Atlanta that he fired Harrita Benton on Thursday for failing to show up for a scheduled event. He explained that her contract was terminated and instructed her to return her uniform and keys the following morning.
However, Benton didn’t appear until later that evening, and according to Morgan, she came prepared for a confrontation.
“She had a key to the building. She came into the building and she was dressed for the part. She had on a hoodie, she had on sweatpants and tennis shoes, and she had a pistol in her waist,” Morgan said, visibly shaken. “Her intention was to kill me.”
morgan said his life flashed before his eyes until another employee bravely stepped in front of him. Benton then allegedly stole his phone and fled the scene.
“I have not slept in the last 48 hours,” Morgan said.”Had another employee call out this morning out of fear.”
Benton was apprehended later that night and charged with simple battery and theft by taking. She is currently being held at the Fulton County Jail.
Despite the arrest, Morgan says his employees remain fearful. He has since hired additional security for the business.
