A Symphony of Vintage Gear
The sonic landscape of “Atomised Listening” was sculpted using a collection of vintage audio equipment. At the heart of the setup were five Akai reel-to-reel machines, dating back to the 1960s and ’70s. These machines, along with a Roland space Echo RE-201 and a TEAC M-30 mixing desk, formed the core of Cousins’ sonic palette.
The Quest for the Right machines
Acquiring and preparing the necessary equipment was a significant undertaking. “I needed five to create this installation, plus another five as backup,” Cousins reveals. “Finding and servicing the machines was quite a long process.” This dedication to sourcing and maintaining the vintage gear underscores his commitment to the authentic analog experience.
