Audi is preparing to launch seven new vehicle models in 2026, a strategic expansion that diverges from a broader industry trend of shrinking product lineups or extending the lifecycles of existing models.
According to reporting from Motor1, the German luxury manufacturer is initiating a major wave of new products beginning in 2026 and extending over several subsequent years. This rollout includes a mix of electric vehicles, luxury SUVs, and regional-specific models designed to target competitive segments in Europe and China.
A central component of this expansion is the revival of the Audi A2. Originally launched in 2000 as a compact family car and produced until 2005, the A2 will return as a compact electric vehicle under the E-Tron banner. The new iteration will focus on efficiency and is expected to be a Europe-focused product, meaning it is not anticipated for release in the United States.
The new A2 is expected to utilize the MEB or MEB+ platform from the Volkswagen Group. Technical specifications suggest battery options will likely range between 58.0 and 79.0 kilowatt-hours. The model is projected to arrive in Fall 2026.
In the Chinese market, Audi is implementing a strategy of doubling down
on local electric vehicle offerings. Following the 2025 launch of the E5 Sportback, the company is developing a second model for the region, the Audi E7X.
Audi is also targeting the three-row SUV market with the introduction of the Q9. The company intends for this new SUV to compete directly in the high-growth three-row segment, where luxury automakers are facing increased competition.
In addition to these major launches, the 2026 product cycle includes the introduction of a new RS5 and an updated version of the Q4.
The decision to expand the lineup comes as other automotive manufacturers shift toward leaner portfolios to manage production costs and transition to electrification. By contrast, Audi is taking the opposite approach
in 2026, leveraging shared platforms across the Volkswagen Group to introduce a higher volume of diverse models across different global markets.
