Austin Theory Reveals Injury That Sidelined Him From WWE

WWE World Tag Team Champion Austin Theory has revealed the medical circumstances that led to his absence from television for several months in 2025, describing a period that coincided with significant professional uncertainty.

Speaking on The Mark Hoke Show!, Theory disclosed that he had been battling a hernia for an extended period of time. He explained that the condition worsened over time, yet he continued to compete in the ring while managing the injury behind the scenes.

Theory detailed the physical toll of the injury, stating that he frequently had to manually reposition the hernia after his matches to continue performing.

Emergency Room Visit and Sidelining

The situation reached a critical point in July 2025 during a taping for Main Event. Theory stated that the hernia would not go back in following a match, which forced him to seek immediate medical attention.

Everything happens for a reason. But, I was actually wrestling with a hernia for a very long time and as gross as We see, I was having to pop it back in after certain matches and yeah, just stuff people don’t know about. They don’t know when somebody goes to the ring what the damage is but, I was in a good spot, and even when it was hitting a low for me, I was doing everything that I could to just stay and keep the wheels turning on the car, and it reached a point, I had a match on Main Event, and it would not go back in. So that night, I went to the emergency room, and it blew my mind because I was like, ‘wow, I just had my gear on, and I went out there and I wrestled and now I’m in the E.R.’, and now it’s like, well, ‘where does this go from now?’ Because now I’m out of the picture.

The emergency room visit effectively ended his ability to compete, leading to an abrupt sidelining that lasted until his return at Survivor Series in December 2025.

Contract Uncertainty and Mental Recovery

The physical injury was compounded by professional stress, as Theory revealed that his WWE contract was nearing expiration at the same time he was forced out of action.

Theory described this confluence of events as a low point in his life and career, noting that the combination of a medical crisis and contract uncertainty left him feeling rocked.

My contract was actually coming up so, a lot of things were hitting me personally and that’s kind of one of those things, that’s a low point in your life where you get really rocked, and to me, those points are where you really, you either stay down or you pick yourself up and you become a version of yourself that’s always been in you but it takes you to that next level, and it helped me reframe my mindset and everything and coming back, I just knew, What we have is my value and this is what I need to be doing.

Theory indicated that this period of recovery allowed him to reframe his mindset and gain a clearer vision of his value within the company before returning to the active roster.

Recent Form and Upcoming Appearances

Since returning in December 2025, Theory has integrated into a new alliance. Upon his return, he was revealed as the mystery individual who attacked Seth Rollins at Survivor Series, leading to an alignment with The Vision.

Theory’s recent momentum has continued in the tag team division. On the March 30 episode of Raw, Theory and Logan Paul secured a victory over The Usos.

This momentum leads into WrestleMania 42, where Theory is scheduled to compete on Night Two. He will team with Logan Paul and iShowSpeed to face The Usos and LA Knight during the first hour of the event, which will be broadcast on ESPN.
