Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs plans to return to play on Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He spoke to reporters on Friday in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, about his recovery from injury.
Matthews visited a specialist in Munich for his injury. After that, he completed a week of workouts at home. He participated in his second full practice with the Maple Leafs on Friday.
“In my mind I’m back and excited to play tomorrow,” Matthews said, according to the Toronto Sun.
At 27 years old, Matthews tallied over 22 minutes of play in a game against Minnesota on November 3 before being placed on injured reserve. This season, he has recorded 11 points, with 5 goals and 6 assists in 13 games.
Last season, he led the NHL in goals scored for the third time in four seasons. He achieved a career-high of 69 goals and added 38 assists in 81 games. The Maple Leafs currently hold a record of 13 wins, 7 losses, and 2 overtime losses this season.
