Australia has announced a $1.2 billion investment in new Bushmaster armoured vehicles and military truck upgrades, while simultaneously confirming the sale of a fleet of these vehicles to the Netherlands following a Dutch government request.
The Australian government will spend $1.2 billion on 268 new Bushmaster armoured vehicles, as well as upgrades to army trucks and Hawkei tactical vehicles, Defence Minister Richard Marles said. This investment is part of Australia’s largest peacetime defence buildup and is expected to support hundreds of jobs in regional Victoria and Brisbane.
At the same time, Australia has agreed to sell a fleet of Bushmaster armoured vehicles to the Netherlands. The Dutch government requested the vehicles, and they have already been shipped to Europe, adding to the Netherlands’ existing Bushmaster fleet. The exact number of vehicles sold and the financial value of the deal have not been disclosed.
Marles highlighted that the Australian-built Bushmaster and Hawkei vehicles are recognised as world-leading protected mobility vehicles, supporting not only the Australian Defence Force but also international partners. He joined Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy in Bendigo to announce both the Netherlands deal and the local investment in vehicle production.
