Australia is set to gift a Guardian-class patrol boat to the Maldives, according to an announcement made Monday by Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and Maldives Minister of Defense Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon. The vessel, currently under construction, is slated for completion in 2026. This initiative aims to enhance maritime security in the region.
In addition to the patrol boat, Australia will also provide multi-beam echo sounder equipment to assist the Maldives in mapping its ocean floor. This hydrographic equipment will support maritime safety and potentially unlock economic development opportunities.
