Australia Adjusts Squad: Labuschagne Out,Smith Injured for West Indies Test

Australia’s cricket team will have a different look for their opening Test match against the West Indies. Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped, and Steve Smith is out with an injury. The first Test begins June 25 in Barbados.
Teenage opener Sam Konstas and Josh Inglis will fill the spots vacated by Labuschagne and Smith. Labuschagne’s recent performance, including scores of 17 and 22 in the World Test Championship final against South Africa, contributed to the decision.He hasn’t scored a Test century as the 2023 Ashes series.
Selection chair George Bailey acknowledged Labuschagne’s potential but noted his recent performance has not met expectations. “Marnus at his best can be a really crucial member of this team. He understands his output hasn’t been at the level we, or he, expects,” Bailey said. he added that the team will continue to support Labuschagne in rediscovering his form.
Smith’s absence stems from a dislocated right little finger sustained during the final at Lord’s. Although he avoided surgery and traveled to the Caribbean, he will need to wear a splint for up to eight weeks. He might return for the second Test in Grenada in July.
“Steve needs more time for the wound to heal so we’ll give him another week’s rest and assess his functionality after that,” Bailey said. he expressed excitement about the possibility for Inglis and Konstas to prove themselves.
