Taylor Haynes, a weather presenter for the Today Show, was taken to a hospital on April 3, 2026, after a large crab clamped onto her finger during a live broadcast segment at a fish market in Sydney, Australia.
The incident occurred while Haynes was interviewing a seafood seller, whom she had asked to show viewers his most expensive catch. During the segment, the seller handed Haynes a large crab.
While holding the crustacean up to the camera, Haynes leaned in for a mock kiss, at which point the crab suddenly latched onto her finger.
Reporting indicates that Haynes initially laughed at the encounter, but her tone changed as the crab refused to release its grip. She cried, Ah, it’s got my finger!
and urgently signaled for the production team to cut the live shot back to the studio.
The crab’s grip was eventually broken when a stallholder used a metal bar to pry the claw open.
Haynes later returned to the air to provide an update. She appeared visibly shaken and was seen holding her hand in a cup of cold water, stating that she was unable to move her fingers.
The pain is real. I’ve got no movement. It’s awful. It was holding on for dear life. I’m still in shock.

Due to the injury, Haynes confirmed she would not be completing her scheduled weather presentation later in the bulletin. She instead departed for hospital treatment.
