Google has expanded its Photos app with 15 new Remix templates and a wider rollout of existing Create tab features. The silent update brings playful AI-powered image transformation tools to users globally, building on a feature originally introduced in July of the previous year with just four basic styles.
Google Photos Expands Remix Library With Fifteen New Templates
The latest software package increases the total number of available styles inside the Remix tool. When the feature debuted in July 2025, it offered only four distinct options powered by Google’s Imagen model: 3D animation, anime, sketch, and comic book. Users could select a gallery image, pick a style, and receive a transformed output within seconds. The recent update adds 15 new templates to that original lineup.
Washing Machine And Microwave Filters Lead Bizarre Visual Styles
Among the newly added templates, three specific filters stand out for their unconventional output: the washing machine, the fish eye, and the microwave. Each template warps user photographs through strange visual logic rather than aiming for conventional artistic or stylish polish. Additional choices include a red carpet template, whimsical birthday cards, and photo booth-style options. Users dissatisfied with a specific generation can tap regenerate to alter the look while keeping the underlying template intact.
Age And Regional Restrictions Govern New Google Photos Tool
Accessing the updated Remix tool requires opening the Google Photos application on Android or iPhone, going to the Create tab at the bottom of the screen, selecting a preferred template, and uploading a gallery image before tapping generate. The updated templates carry specific limitations regarding availability. Google restricts the new features to users aged 18 and older in select countries. The resulting images intentionally abandon any pretense of realism, altering facial expressions and features alongside background lighting and color grading.
