Avatar 3 Box Office France Beats Avatar 2
Disney must be delighted to learn that his Avatar 3 got off to a very good start on its first day in French cinemas.
The stakes are enormous for Avatar: Fire and Ash since the film James Cameron has, a priori, cost around 400 million dollars (excluding marketing). Disney therefore hopes to hit (very) big at the box office to repay its investment and must aim for a little over 1.3 billion to be profitable, if we are to believe the experts. However, beyond the profitability aspect, the success or otherwise ofAvatar: Fire and Ash will have serious consequences for its future.
Early estimates for its worldwide box office debut are strong, but rather disappointing, at this point. We will get more precise answers on its global launch at the end of its first weekend, and in the meantime, we can already confirm thatit made a strong impression on its first day in French cinemas.
avatar 3 on track
According to figures relayed by the X/Twitter account The Box Office of films in France and around the world, Avatar: Fire and Ash attracted 273,370 spectators for its first day, December 17, 2025, in France. He achieves the best start of the year 2025 in front Lilo & Stitch (262 605) et Zootopia 2 (253,488). Note that Demon Slayer: The Infinite Fortress had started with 339,855 spectators in September, but that was taking into account its previews where it had recorded 135,216 admissions (i.e. a start of 204,639 for the first day).
With such a launch, Avatar 3 at the same time achieves a better first day thanAvatar: The Way of Water in 2022. The second part attracted around 230,000 spectators for its launch, but it should be noted that it was released on the day of the semi-final of the Football World Cup between France and Morocco, which may have hampered it somewhat. On the other hand, despite this nice start Avatar: Fire and Ash is far from surpassing Avatar which had accumulated 320,934 tickets sold for its first day.
So what does this mean for the future of Avatar 3? To be very honest, it doesn’t mean much at the moment. Just this start can lead to some speculation. For example, Lilo & Stitch had garnered 1.3 million admissions in the first week and Zootopia 2 had done better with 1.7 million. Avatar 3 should therefore do at least as much. However, given the situation with the Christmas school holidays starting this Friday, December 19 in the evening in France, he even seems inclined to aim for two million entries.
In any case, this is what the two previous parts released at the same period managed to achieve. Avatar had recorded 2,648,596 admissions for its first week in France whileAvatar: The Way of Water had a total of 2,739,848 spectators. We will therefore follow the evolution of the scores very closely.Avatar: Fire and Ash in the coming days (and weeks) to find out if Pandora still has a future in theaters. In any case, in France, the craze does not seem to have waned for the moment.
