AVENEO Special Show at Altenpflege 2026: How AI, Robotics and Smart Tech Are Transforming Elder Care

At the AVENEO special show during ALTENPFLEGE 2026 in Essen, innovators demonstrated how artificial intelligence, robotics, and smart technologies are transforming daily care work. The event, held from April 21 to 23, 2026, in Hall 6 of the exhibition grounds, served as a platform for market-ready solutions aimed at addressing challenges in the care sector, including demographic change, staff shortages, and rising costs.

Organizers highlighted that AVENEO features 50 start-ups, start-up companies, and innovators presenting pioneering products, services, and concepts. The variety of innovations reflects industry challenges, ranging from assistance robots and health apps to new approaches in staff recruitment and organizational structures. Special exhibition tours focused on themes such as prevention and AI in elderly care, exploring both potential, and limitations.

A notable trend observed at the show was the growing integration of AI-driven applications in care settings. According to Olav Sehlbach from the Care Venture Circle, the sector is experiencing a paradigm shift where artificial intelligence has moved beyond vision to become a practical tool. Examples include systems for early detection of pressure ulcers through continuous tissue monitoring and applications that automatically document admission interviews and convert them into care plans.

AI-based communication solutions designed to activate users or combat loneliness were also on display. Organizers emphasized that these technologies serve not as ends in themselves but as tools to simplify processes, ensure quality, and manage resources effectively. The AVENEO Newcomer Challenge further highlighted this development, with 18 nominated projects showing a clear trend toward AI-assisted applications.

Robotics also played a significant role in the demonstrations. United Robotics Group presented its humanoid robot, uMe, at the event, engaging with care professionals from across the sector. The robot was showcased as part of efforts to introduce advanced assistance technologies into everyday care environments.

The special show positioned itself as a response to growing pressures on the care industry to secure quality, participation, and efficient structures amid increasing demands. By focusing on tangible, future-oriented solutions, AVENEO aimed to make innovation visible and accessible to professionals seeking practical tools for their work.
