This includes four honorary awards. He also holds the record for most nominations with 59. His wins span categories like Best Short Subject (Cartoon), Best Documentary Feature, and Best visual Effects. For example, he won Best Short Subject (Cartoon) in 1942 for “Der Fuehrer’s Face.”
Most Oscar Wins by a Film
Three films share the record for the most Academy Awards won: Ben-Hur (1959), Titanic (1997), and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003), each winning 11 Oscars. The American Film Institute provides historical Oscar data.
Ben-Hur swept the awards in 1960, winning in categories such as Best Picture, Best Director (William Wyler), and Best Actor (Charlton Heston). Titanic achieved its 11 wins in 1998, including Best Picture and Best Director (James Cameron). The Lord of the rings: The Return of the king won in 2004, also securing wins for Best Picture and Best Director (Peter Jackson).
