aws.amazon.com reported in a retrospective detailing Prime Day 2026 metrics alongside a series of new artificial intelligence and security launches that Amazon ElastiCache processed 2.3 quadrillion daily requests at its peak. That throughput figure highlights an event where Amazon DynamoDB handled over 59 trillion requests across four days while maintaining single-digit millisecond response times.
Prime Day Infrastructure Scale and Fault Injection Tests
During the June 2026 shopping event, AWS Lambda handled over 2.3 trillion daily invocations, aws.amazon.com reported. Amazon EBS peaked above 24.8 trillion I/O operations to move more than an exabyte of data daily.
Amazon ECS launched an average of 158.3 million tasks per day on AWS Fargate, marking a 47.7 percent jump over the previous year. AWS Graviton processors powered up to 49 percent of the Amazon EC2 compute utilized by Amazon.com.
To prepare for that traffic, engineers ran more than 44,000 AWS Fault Injection Service experiments ahead of the event, more than six times the volume recorded in 2025. Those deliberate failures let teams spot structural weaknesses months before shoppers arrived.
Anthropic just launched Claude Haiku 5.5:Up to 75% cheaper than Haiku 4.5 (≈90% lower for ~90% of requests)Optimized for sub-agents & high-volume tasks (classification, extraction, support, browser work)First Haiku with “effort controls” to trade cost vs reasoning…
Claude Haiku 5.5 and Voice Agent Updates
Alongside the infrastructure recap, AWS released Claude Haiku 5.5 on Amazon Bedrock and Claude Platform at roughly 75 percent less cost than Haiku 4.5 for most tasks. It introduces effort controls so developers can tune spending against intelligence per task.
Amazon Nova 2.5 Sonic also arrived to support real-time voice agents with lower latency and higher instruction-following accuracy. The speech-to-speech model maintains a 256K context window and handles expressive voices in seven languages.

GuardDuty RDS Protection and Kafka OAuth Support
Amazon GuardDuty RDS Protection expanded to detect data exfiltration and destruction on Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL and Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL. The feature builds behavioral baselines using machine learning anomaly detection to flag unusual queries without requiring database configuration changes.
AWS Lambda added OAuth support for self-managed Apache Kafka event sources, allowing developers to authenticate consumers through enterprise identity providers like Okta or Amazon Cognito. The update brings Kafka event source mapping to regulated industries that previously relied solely on SASL or mTLS methods.
Apache Iceberg Materialized Views in Redshift
Amazon Redshift now supports pre-computing expensive joins and aggregations into Apache Iceberg tables stored in Amazon S3 and registered in the AWS Glue Data Catalog. These views use familiar SQL and can be queried directly by engines like Apache Spark, Snowflake, and Trino, with Redshift recomputing only changed data.
Security tooling also expanded with the public preview of AWS Continuum for Penetration Testing inside CI/CD pipelines. Meanwhile, Strands Box launched as an open-source sandbox combining OS-level containment with Dogwood policies to limit agent permissions.
Upcoming AWS re:Invent and Community Conferences
AWS Community Days continue through October 2026 with stops in San Francisco, Miami, Brisbane, Cape Town, Malta, and Mumbai. Additional developer events remain planned across global chapters through the end of the year.
