Regional Conflict Context
The surge in evacuations is tied to the military operations initiated by the U.S. And Israel on February 28. Following the deaths of the Iranian Supreme Leader and other senior officials, Iran responded with retaliatory strikes.
These retaliatory actions targeted Israel as well as U.S. Military bases located in the Gulf and surrounding regions. The affected areas include Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, and Cyprus.
Other developments in the region have included claims by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) regarding the downing of an F-35 fighter jet over Iranian airspace on April 3, 2026, and the capture of a U.S. Pilot. The United Kingdom deployed Rapid Sentry air defense to Kuwait on April 3 following a drone attack.
