Land Dispute Adjourned in Dakar Court

A case involving businesswoman Awa Baldé and businessman Aziz Ndiaye was called at the Criminal Court of Dakar on February 26, 2026, but was ultimately postponed until March 12, 2026. The adjournment stems from Awa Baldé’s need to fulfill a court-ordered financial deposit.

Baldé is accusing Ndiaye of fraud related to a land transaction in Ngaparou, reportedly valued at 50 million FCFA. According to court documents, she alleges Ndiaye only paid 20 million FCFA for the land, which originally belonged to her former husband.

During Thursday’s proceedings, only Awa Baldé appeared before the court. Aziz Ndiaye was not present. The court decided to postpone the case to allow Baldé time to meet the financial requirements for the case to proceed.

The dispute has reportedly drawn attention within Senegal’s real estate sector. While details of the initial agreement and subsequent complaints remain under review, the case highlights ongoing financial disagreements between private citizens and developers.

Recent news from Senegal includes developments regarding the potential tightening of Article 319 of the penal code by the government led by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. Also, reports have surfaced concerning the incarceration of Pape Cheikh Diallo and allegations of voluntary HIV transmission, leading to several arrests. In sports, the staff of Olympique de Marseille’s new coach, Habib Beye, have been cleared to join the team ahead of a crucial match against Olympique Lyonnais.

Elsewhere, former Minister of Mines Sophie Gladima has been imprisoned in a fraud case and lawmakers from the Pastef party are expected to meet with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on February 27, 2026 for a traditional breaking of the Ramadan fast.
