Examination Launched Following death of 12-Year-Old from Padua

Padua prosecutors have initiated a‌ manslaughter investigation into the December 31st death of Azzurra Breda, a 12-year-old‍ resident of Sant’Angelo di Piove di Sacco. Azzurra passed away in the pediatric intensive care unit ‌at⁢ the University Hospital of Padua after a rapid decline following a bout of fulminant pneumonia.

Rapidly⁤ Deteriorating Condition

Azzurra first exhibited symptoms on December 28th, developing a fever reaching 40 degrees Celsius. Her parents promptly sought medical attention at ⁤the pediatric emergency room in Padua, leading to her hospitalization due to emerging breathing difficulties. Despite initial care, her condition worsened, necessitating a transfer to⁤ intensive care where⁤ she ultimately succumbed to the illness on the morning of December 31st.

Authorities⁤ have ordered an autopsy to determine if any medical omissions or responsibilities contributed to the tragic outcome. as of January 6, 2026, no suspects have been identified, and judicial police are currently reviewing Azzurra’s⁤ complete medical history.

A Vibrant Young Life

Prior to her illness, Azzurra was a healthy ⁢and active seventh-grade student with a ‍strong academic record. She participated in dance and had been playing‍ the piano for four years. A recent sports medical examination conducted in October had yielded positive results,‍ indicating no pre-existing health concerns.

The community of Sant’Angelo di Piove di⁤ Sacco mourned ‌Azzurra’s passing with a prayer‍ vigil held at the Church of San Michele on January 5th. ⁢Parish priest Don Enrico Piccolo offered words⁢ of comfort, stating,‍ “Azzurra is⁤ alive and guides our steps on the path of life.”
