Kane Brown’s 2024 “In The Air” Tour: A Glimpse into the FOH Engineer’s Gear
Kane Brown is a renowned American country music singer and songwriter known for his unique voice and multicultural background. His debut album, released in 2016, garnered widespread acclaim and commercial success. Brown’s musical style combines elements of country, R&B, and pop, attracting fans worldwide.
Currently, Kane Brown is on his 2024 “In The Air” tour, which includes stops in the United States, New Zealand, Australia, and other countries. David Loy, the FOH engineer, has been working with Kane Brown since 2017 and has been instrumental in shaping the sound of the tour.

David Loy: A Talented Young Tuner
David Loy is a talented young tuner with extensive experience in live sound engineering. Prior to working with Kane Brown, Loy worked with Aubrie Sellers and Grammy Award-winning artist Sturgill Simpson. Loy’s expertise in mixing sound indoors has been invaluable in his role as FOH engineer for Kane Brown’s tour.

Loy’s addition to the tour has made Kane Brown’s live performances more complete and vivid. In a recent video, Loy shared his approach to sound engineering and the equipment he uses to achieve the desired sound.
The Summing Processing Tool: A Key Component of Loy’s Workflow
Loy’s summing processing tool is derived from the 5059 Summing processor made by Rupert Neve. He feeds live audio into the 5059 through the soundcard, uses stereo channel 1 for level control and red silk coloration, then sends it to other effects like EQ compression, and finally sends it back to the 5059 stereo 2 channels for blue coloration with Silk stain.

Loy credits Toby Francis with introducing him to this technique during Ariana’s tour in 2017. He found it to be an effective way to enhance the sonic texture of the live audio.
Other Components of Loy’s Cabinet
In addition to the 5059 Summing processor, Loy also uses other equipment from Rupert Neve Designs, including the Shelford Channel 5035 Preamplifier Channel Strip and the 545 Main Sound Source Enhancer. These devices have helped Loy to improve Kane Brown’s performance, making it stable and brilliant.
