Backstreet’s Back… In Space! How Sci-Fi classics Inspired Thier Mind-Blowing Sphere Residency
Las Vegas just got a whole lot more futuristic, and it’s all thanks to the Backstreet Boys. The iconic boy band, celebrating 20 years of their hit album Millennium, has taken up residency at the technologically advanced sphere, and the show is a dazzling spectacle that’s drawing rave reviews.But what you might not know is the surprising source of inspiration behind the show’s stunning visuals: classic science fiction films.
From 2001: A Space Odyssey to The Matrix, the creative team behind the show, including Baz Halpin, CEO and founder of Silent House, looked to the giants of sci-fi to craft a truly immersive experience.Halpin,a prolific producer known for his work on everything from Usher’s Super bowl halftime show to Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour movie,was brought on board in November 2024 to help conceive the show.
The goal? To create a cohesive narrative that would take audiences on a journey. “I thought, ‘Okay, great, we’ll do a space opera,” Halpin explained. “We’ll do it all in space and… let’s try and tie the whole thing visually from beginning to end.”
The solution was a spaceship, aptly named Millennium, that serves as the central device for the entire show.As the show begins, the giant spaceship blasts off into space, setting the stage for an epic adventure.
