Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show Draws Praise from Musicians, Politicians

Bad Bunny’s history-making performance at Super Bowl LX on February 8 has sparked a wave of reactions from across the entertainment and political spectrums. The Puerto Rican artist’s set, a vibrant celebration of Latin culture, drew widespread acclaim and sparked conversation online.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express his enthusiasm, writing “NUEVAYoL” alongside the Puerto Rican flag emoji. Rapper Mavi simply stated on the platform, “this shit hard im finna stop speaking English actually fuck English.” The musical group The Marías shared their Puerto Rican pride, posting “boricuaaaa” on X.

Rauw Alejandro highlighted the diversity of Latin music showcased during the performance, writing in Spanish on X: “Long live the BOMBA, the PLENA, the SALSA, the HIPHOP and above all LONG LIVE REGGAETON.” Actor Ben Stiller also offered his congratulations, posting on X: “Incredible Half time show Bad Bunny.”

The performance also prompted a pointed response from Kacey Musgraves, who criticized a competing halftime show featuring Kid Rock. Musgraves wrote on X, “Well. That made me feel more proudly American than anything Kid Rock has ever done,” in reference to the “All-American Halftime Show” streamed on YouTube by Turning Point USA.

Other artists also weighed in with praise. Rapper Doechii, who appeared in a Super Bowl ad for Levi’s jeans, posted on X: “Bad Bunny WOW ! Fucking, WOW. History.” Actress Kerry Washington echoed the sentiment on Threads, writing: “I don’t know if I’ll ever recover from that… WHAT👏🏾A👏🏾SHOW👏🏾.” SG Lewis described the performance as “the best half time show I’ve ever seen” on X, while Monte Booker concurred, calling it “one of the best half times.” Nick León simply expressed his enduring support for the artist, writing on X: “Love bad bunny forever.” Even Nancy Sinatra joined the chorus of approval, quoting a post from Lynda Carter about Bad Bunny with the words: “Love him.” Veteran musician John Mellencamp added, “I don’t know what Bad Bunny is saying, however, I do know he is standing up for Puerto Rico and I am standing up for him. His half time show was great.”

Bad Bunny’s halftime show was described as a love letter to Puerto Rico and Latinx communities, featuring ambitious set design and a roster of special guests including Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, Karol G, Young Miko, and Cardi B. The performance capped off a successful week for the artist, who also won Album Of The Year at the Grammys on February 1 for his album Debí Tirar Más Fotos.

During his performance, Bad Bunny highlighted Latin America, name-dropping Guatemala, Venezuela, Colombia, and Cuba, among other nations. He also delivered a message of unity, urging audiences to “follow love rather than hate.”
