The original “Bad News Bears,” a comedy about a misfit little league team, charmed audiences upon its 1976 release. But where are the actors now? The film starred Walter Matthau as coach Morris Buttermaker, Tatum O’Neal as star pitcher Amanda Whurlitzer, and Jackie Earle Haley as motorcycle-riding Kelly leak.
Walter Matthau, born Walter Matuschanskayasky, died in 2000 from heart disease complications after a prolific 45-year career. His final film role was in “Hanging Up” (2000).he was married twice and had three children.
Tatum O’Neal, daughter of actor ryan O’Neal, played the talented pitcher Amanda Whurlitzer. She won an Oscar for “Paper Moon,” becoming the youngest recipient ever. O’Neal has three brothers and three children with former husband John McEnroe. Her most recent film role was in 2021’s ”Not to Forget.”
Vic Morrow (Roy Turner), tragically died at age 53 during the filming of ”Twilight Zone: The Movie” in 1982 when a helicopter crash killed him and two child actors.
Jackie Earle Haley, who played the rebellious Kelly Leak, continues to act. The San Antonio resident has appeared in “The Union” and “Dead money” (2023). He also holds black belts in Kenpo and taekwondo. Haley reprised his role in two “Bad News Bears” sequels.
Alfred Lutter III, who played the nerdy Oglivie, is now an engineer, consultant, and entrepreneur.He was previously nominated for a BAFTA Award for his role in “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.”
Chris Barnes, known as Tanner Boyle, ended his acting career in 1983. Little public details is available about his current life.
