BAM Announces Strategic Appointments
The Badminton Association of malaysia (BAM) is bolstering its leadership team wiht several high-profile appointments, including former world number one badminton player Lee Chong Wei. This move is part of a broader effort led by BAM President Tan Sri Tengku Zafrul Aziz to revitalize the organization and improve Malaysian badminton‘s performance.
Chong Wei, who retired in 2019, is expected to focus on player and coaching advancement. While a specific portfolio wasn’t initially defined, his willingness to rejoin BAM was viewed as a significant positive signal for the sport in Malaysia. This appointment follows extensive consultations with state badminton associations through the “Tangkis” initiative.
consultation and Future Plans
Tan Sri Tengku Zafrul Aziz confirmed he had met with representatives from all 15 state badminton associations to gather input on BAM’s future direction. “Alhamdulillah, I’ve met with all 15 state badminton associations. They have shared their views on BAM’s direction through the ‘Tangkis’ initiative,” Zafrul stated. The feedback collected will be discussed at an off-site meeting on October 18th, followed by a council meeting to finalize and announce the details.
Expanding BAM’s Expertise
Beyond Chong Wei, BAM is bringing in expertise in other crucial areas. datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly, former CEO of NTV7 and Celcom, will lead branding and marketing efforts. Tan Sri gooi Hoe Soon, with extensive experience in accounting and corporate finance, will oversee financial affairs. Datuk Sunil Abraham will provide legal expertise to the association.
