PETALING JAYA – Women’s doubles world runners-up Pearly Tan and M.Thinaah will need to remain vigilant against Indonesia’s‍ Febriana Kusuma and Meliysa Puspitasari in the second⁣ round of the ⁢Arctic Open, despite having previously secured comfortable victories against them.

Dominant opening Round for Malaysians

Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, finalists at last year’s Arctic Open, easily defeated Denmark’s Natasja Anthonisen and Amalie Kudsk in the opening round⁣ on october 25,2023. The second-seeded Malaysian pair completed a 21-13, 21-14 win in just 32 minutes, advancing to the next stage of the tournament.

Indonesian Opponents Benefit from Bye

Febriana Kusuma and Meliysa Puspitasari received a bye directly‍ into the second round, having not played a match yet. This was due to a reshuffling of the draw following a withdrawal from a qualifying pair. The rest could possibly give the Indonesian duo a slight advantage ⁣as they prepare to face Pearly and⁢ Thinaah in their quest for a⁣ quarter-final berth.

Seeking Revenge

The Indonesians will be motivated⁣ to avenge their recent defeats to the Malaysians. Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah have won their last two encounters: 21-18,⁣ 21-17 at the Hong Kong Open in November 2023, ⁢and⁣ a closely contested three-game match at the China Masters (20-22,‍ 21-16, 22-20).

We ⁢want to perform better and continue to improve. We’ll try to maintain the positive trend we’ve‍ shown so far and fix what still needs work, said Febriana‍ Kusuma, as reported by The star.
