A vacant property in Slyguff, Bagenalstown, County carlow, experienced a break-in between 7 p.m. ⁢on Monday, October 27th,⁤ and 8 a.m. on ⁣Tuesday, October 28th, 2025.Gardaí are investigating the incident, which involved forced entry and the ransacking of the home.

Understanding the risks to Vacant Properties

Vacant homes are statistically more vulnerable ‍to burglary and vandalism. ⁣Long periods of unoccupancy can signal ⁤potential thieves that a property is unoccupied, ‍making them targets. Irish Home Security ⁤tips offer advice on securing empty properties.

Details of the⁤ Incident

According to authorities, the intruder(s) gained access by smashing a ⁤side window of the dwelling.⁢ The house was afterward searched, though it remains⁢ unclear at this time whether any items were stolen. The homeowner, currently⁣ abroad, had entrusted a family member with regular checks on the property.

It was this family‍ member-the homeowner’s brother-who discovered the damage and promptly contacted the Gardaí. As of November 3rd, 2025, at 14:44, the homeowner has not yet returned to Ireland to assess potential losses. This delay is hindering the full scope of the investigation.

Gardaí Investigation Ongoing

The Garda ⁢Síochána are actively investigating the burglary. Due‌ to the ⁣homeowner’s absence, a complete inventory of the property’s ⁤contents and a determination of any stolen items are pending their return. Gardaí‍ are appealing to anyone with data regarding the incident to come forward.

We urge anyone who may have observed any ‌suspicious activity in the Slyguff area between the evening of October 27th and the morning of October 28th to contact the Bagenalstown Garda Station.

Contact information for the⁤ Bagenalstown Garda Station can be ⁢found‌ on⁢ the Garda website.
