Jakarta — The chairman of the Golkar Party’s Regional Representative Council (DPD) in Southeast Maluku, Nus Kei, was fatally stabbed on April 19, 2026, prompting a call from national Golkar chairman Airlangga Hartarto for a swift and thorough investigation into the attack.
Nus Kei, who also served as a member of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), was attacked while in Ambon, Maluku, according to initial reports from local authorities and confirmed by Golkar party officials. He was rushed to Karel Sadsuitubun Regional General Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Hartarto expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Nus Kei as a dedicated public servant and party leader who had worked tirelessly for the development of Maluku. “We demand that the police uncover the truth behind this act of violence and bring those responsible to justice,” Hartarto said in a statement released through the party’s official channels.
The Maluku Police (Polda Maluku) have launched a criminal investigation into the stabbing, treating it as a case of intentional violence. Early findings suggest the attack may be linked to a personal dispute, though authorities have not ruled out other motives. Police have urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation while the investigation proceeds.
Golkar officials confirmed that Nus Kei had been actively involved in regional politics and had recently participated in party meetings concerning legislative development in Eastern Indonesia. His death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from fellow legislators, local government leaders, and civil society groups across Maluku and beyond.
The party has called for unity and restraint, emphasizing that the legal process must be allowed to run its course. Golkar’s DPD in Southeast Maluku will hold an internal meeting to discuss the succession of leadership and to honor Nus Kei’s contributions to the party and the region.
As of April 20, 2026, no arrests have been made in connection with the stabbing. Police continue to gather evidence, review surveillance footage, and interview witnesses. The case remains under active investigation, with authorities promising transparency as new developments emerge.
