The Connection Between Vaccination and Healthy Aging
The idea that vaccines might play a role in healthy aging is often debated. Baiba Rozentāle,chief doctor at the Latvian Center for Infectious diseases and professor at Riga Stradins University, recently addressed this question, clarifying the relationship between vaccination and maintaining vitality.
Rozentāle explained that vaccines don’t directly stop the aging process, but they can definitely help preserve health by preventing illnesses that cause organ damage. Specifically, she noted that infections like the flu can damage small blood vessels in the brain, heart muscle, lungs, and peripheral circulation, potentially leading to hemorrhages. Avoiding these infections, through vaccination, can contribute to overall health and well-being.
According to Rozentāle, the benefit of vaccination isn’t about extending years of life, but about improving the quality of those years. By preserving health, individuals also maintain their vivacity and youthful energy. More facts about flu vaccination in Latvia, including current data and risk groups, is available from NRA.lv.
