Leon Bailey, the 28-year-old Jamaican winger, is set to join AS Roma from Aston Villa on a season-long loan with an option to buy. The deal, which is expected to be finalized with a medical examination later today, represents a new chapter for the player after four years in Birmingham.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Roma will pay a loan fee of €2-3 million, with a further €22 million required to activate the purchase option. Bailey reportedly prioritized a move to Roma, making the Italian club his primary target.
Bailey arrived at Aston Villa four years ago for a fee of €32 million from Bayer Leverkusen. During his time with the Villans, he made 144 appearances, scoring 22 goals and providing 24 assists.
AS Roma had also considered Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho, but his high salary demands and desire to play in the Champions League proved to be obstacles. Roma may also be pursuing Jonathan Rowe of Olympique Marseille as further reinforcement for their wing position.
