Aussie Arrested in Bali on Drug Charges,Faces Trafficking Rap
Bali police have arrested Philip James Nelson,an Australian man,on suspicion of drug possession and trafficking. The arrest occurred after a small bag containing a white substance fell from NelsonS pocket during a search.

The incident unfolded as officers stopped Nelson, who was riding a scooter without a helmet in Perenan. Video footage shows an officer appearing to restrain Nelson after the bag was spotted.Nelson claimed the substance was Panadol, but an officer responded, “cocaine.”
Police allege Nelson possessed 0.85 grams of cocaine and 0.53 grams of MDMA. Following the arrest, officers searched Nelson’s villa but found no further drugs.


A woman believed to be Nelson’s girlfriend was also detained. If convicted on the drug trafficking charges, nelson could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
Nyoman Sudarma, head of Badung Police’s narcotics unit, said officers found two plastic packages containing a white powder suspected to be cocaine in nelson’s hand.

At a press conference,Nelson initially claimed he found the drugs in a nightclub but later stated he purchased them in South Kuta,according to Badung Police Chief Arif Batubara.Police also allege Nelson admitted he lacked authorization to possess the suspected cocaine.

Nelson faces charges for both possessing and trafficking drugs. As he was escorted back to the police station, he stated, “I am ok.”
A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said they are aware of the arrest and stand ready to provide consular assistance if requested.
Nelson’s arrest marks the third such incident involving Australian men in Bali in recent weeks. On May 29, Puridas Robinson was detained after police allegedly discovered marijuana at his villa. Harsh vardhan Nowlakha was arrested at Bali Airport earlier in May, allegedly carrying 600 grams of marijuana intended for Robinson.

Senior commander Made Sinar Subawa indicated Robinson may face drug possession charges, carrying a maximum 12-year sentence.
Lamar Ahchee was arrested may 22 for allegedly smuggling 1.8 kilograms of cocaine from the UK. While not yet charged, he could face the death penalty if convicted. Ahchee’s lawyer claims he was set up and unaware of the package’s contents.
