Project Overview
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved an additional $48 million loan to bolster the Balochistan Water Resources Development Sector Project (BWRDSP), as announced in a press release issued on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.This funding supplements existing financial commitments and aims to ensure the project’s completion, focusing on enduring water resource management in the Zhob and Mula river basins of Balochistan, Pakistan.
The overall project, initially cleared by the central development Working Party in September 2023, carries a total cost of Rs49.9 billion (approximately $176.5 million USD as of November 26,2023). The original financing plan included a $148 million (78.99%) loan from the ADB, a $5 million (2.67%) grant from the ADB,and a $34.37 million (18.34%) contribution from the Pakistani government. The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council approved the project on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, paving the way for the additional funding.
Project Goals and Impact
