Baltasar Kormákur to Direct & Produce Thriller “Six Clean Kills” for Universal, With Charlize Theron Attached

Baltasar Kormákur and Charlize Theron are reuniting for a new action thriller titled Six Clean Kills for Universal Pictures. According to reporting from Deadline on May 7, 2026, Kormákur is set to both direct and produce the project, while Theron will produce with an eye to star in the film.

The production is based on an unpublished novel by Stan Parish. Parish is attached to adapt the script for the film and will also serve as an executive producer.

Plot details for both the original novel and the upcoming adaptation are currently being kept confidential and have not been released to the public.

Production and Studio Oversight

Theron will produce the movie through Secret Menu, her first-look deal with Universal Pictures. She will collaborate on the production alongside AJ Dix and Beth Kono.

Kormákur will produce the film through his production company, Blueeyes Productions.

Universal Pictures will oversee the project through its production development team. Senior Vice President of Production Development Ryan Jones and Director of Production Development Christine Sun are tasked with overseeing the development of the film.

Collaboration History and Apex Success

This partnership follows the commercial success of the pair’s previous collaboration, the Netflix survival thriller Apex. The film was released on Netflix on April 24, 2026, and debuted at the number one spot on the platform’s global English film list.

The performance of Apex remained strong in the following weeks, holding the number one position on the Netflix Top Ten for two consecutive weeks. The film saw a growth in viewership during its second week, reaching 40.8 million viewers.

Sources indicate that Theron had been loosely attached to the Six Clean Kills project for some time. Following the shoot for Apex, Kormákur and Theron discussed potential future projects after enjoying their time working together on the survival thriller.

Current Project Schedules

While the agreement to partner on Six Clean Kills is in place, the film remains in development as both the director and the potential lead actress are currently committed to other productions.

Theron is currently filming the thriller Tyrant for Amazon MGM Studios.

Kormákur is presently in production on a Netflix film titled The Big Fix, which stars Riz Ahmed and Mark Wahlberg.
