BUENOS AIRES (AP) — The Buenos Aires Food Bank is marking ⁤its 24th year of⁤ operation, having⁤ distributed more than 6.5 million kilograms of food in 2024 to ​combat hunger in the Federal Capital adn Greater Buenos ⁤Aires. Begoña Galíndez, president of the Buenos⁤ Aires Food Bank, said the organization was⁣ the first of its kind in Argentina. “we were the first food bank in Argentina, which arose as an initiative of ‌a‌ group of people concerned with the serious crisis that the country‌ was going through and the permanent waste of ⁣food. Today there ⁢are more than 20 food banks⁤ throughout the country, and 1,400 ⁤worldwide,” Galíndez said.

New Distribution Center Enhances Operations

In 2023, the food bank‍ opened⁤ a‍ distribution center in Benavídez. The 2,900-square-meter facility includes ⁣cold storage and optimized logistics, increasing the organization’s capacity to respond ​to⁣ donors⁢ and‌ social organizations.
