thailand’s cabinet has given the green light to ‍a bid ⁤to bring Formula 1 to the streets of Bangkok as early‍ as 2028. ⁣The move highlights the country’s ambition to host world-class events and boost it’s tourism ⁤sector. The Formula 1 role in attracting global attention is a key factor.

Government spokesman Jirayu houngsub announced Tuesday‍ that the initial proposal aims to secure five races between 2028 and 2032.The investment is estimated at $1.23 billion,‌ according to Tourism Minister Sorawong Thienthong.

The proposed 3.54-mile street circuit would ‍be situated north of the city centre, between Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal ⁤Station and Chatuchak Park.

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s attendance at the Monaco Grand Prix ​last month underscores Thailand’s commitment. She has held multiple discussions with F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali regarding the bid.

With ⁤Formula 1 announcing a packed 24-race calendar for 2026, including Madrid ​and the potential exits of races ​like the Dutch⁢ Grand Prix and Barcelona, Thailand’s bid‌ comes at a ⁤time of calendar reshuffling. The Belgian Grand Prix at⁤ Spa-Francorchamps may also become a biennial event.
