Bangladesh Police Arrest Suspects in Hindu Woman Rape Case, Video Circulation

Police in Bangladesh have arrested five people in connection with the rape of a Hindu woman and the subsequent circulation of a video of the victim on social media. The incident occurred in ramchadrapur Panchkitta village, Comilla district, on Thursday.
According to police, 36-year-old Fajr Ali, the main suspect, was apprehended by local residents while allegedly raping the wife of an expatriate from the same village. Villagers beat him before he fled.
“Some people present at the scene promptly recorded a video of the victim and spread it on social media,” police said, according to ANI.
The disturbing video shows the victim naked and pleading for her dignity. the incident comes amid growing concern over violence against religious minorities and women in Bangladesh.
Authorities registered a case at Muradnagar Police Station. Fajr Ali and four others who allegedly recorded and circulated the video have been arrested. Legal proceedings are underway against all five, police confirmed.
On May 31, various organizations held a protest in Dhaka, condemning violence against minority communities. Sammilita sanatan Parishad, a minority alliance, organized the presentation.
India’s Ministry of external Affairs spokesperson randhir Jaiswal said on June 27 that the Bangladesh government is responsible for ensuring the safety of Hindus and other minorities, following an attack on a Durga temple.
Earlier, on May 16, thousands of women’s rights activists rallied in Dhaka, demanding equality and dignity for women. The rally protested efforts to curtail women’s rights in the name of religion.
