This bank holiday weekend‍ presents significant travel challenges for those in the UK, with a combination of rail strikes, ⁢engineering works,⁢ and⁤ heavy road traffic anticipated. Major events across the country are also expected to draw large ‌crowds, adding⁢ to ​congestion.

Rail Disruptions: what to Expect

A strike by the RMT union is causing widespread disruption on CrossCountry routes from Aberdeen ‌to Cornwall, with no CrossCountry services running on Saturday.⁢ Sunday will⁢ see alterations and cancellations, and ⁤Monday will have a limited service between 08:00 and 18:00.⁣ key routes affected ⁤include ⁤Birmingham to Leicester, Derby, and ​nottingham,‍ as well as services to ⁣the South Coast and beyond. LNER will have no direct trains to​ London King’s​ Cross⁤ on Sunday​ due to‍ engineering works. ⁢ Passengers ⁤are⁢ strongly advised to check ⁤their journey ⁣details before‍ travelling.

Road Congestion Forecast

Roads are expected to be exceptionally busy, particularly on Friday, ‍with ‍an estimated three million getaway journeys planned. ‍The M5 between‍ Bristol and Devon is predicted to experience particularly heavy traffic. A total of 17.6 million holiday trips are expected by car across the UK this weekend.

Weather Forecast: Mostly Dry with ⁤Sunshine

The weather is ⁢forecast to⁣ be largely dry with spells⁢ of​ sunshine across much of the UK.Western England, Wales, Northern ⁣Ireland, and ‌Scotland can expect sunny spells in the afternoon ⁢on Saturday, but also a ⁣chance of⁤ showers. Sunday will be ⁣mainly⁣ dry with⁣ sunshine and a few clouds, with a small chance of light showers in the north. Central and⁤ Southern England are⁤ expected ⁣to be the warmest areas, ‌with ⁣temperatures reaching 23-25C. Bank Holiday Monday promises a largely dry and warm day with plenty of sunshine, though rain is expected to move into Northern Ireland in ​the evening.

Popular events this weekend include Notting Hill Carnival in London, the Reading and Leeds Festivals, the Edinburgh Fringe closing weekend, ‌Creamfields in​ Cheshire, and the Women’s​ Rugby World Cup opener in‍ Sunderland.
