Bannon Warns Trump on Iran Policy
Bannon Warns Trump: Avoid Protracted Iran Conflict
Former White House strategist Steve Bannon is cautioning the Trump management against deeper military involvement in iran, targeting Republicans and media figures he accuses of advocating for war. Bannon, speaking at a breakfast, specifically called out fox News hosts and Republican foreign policy hawks for urging President Trump to support Israeli military actions with U.S. forces. The debate over the U.S. role and the potential for military action highlights the complex geopolitical role in the Middle East.
Bannon, who identifies as a prominent figure in the “MAGA” movement and hosts the “War Room” podcast, retains influence among Trump’s supporters. He criticized commentators on fox News for what he sees as their recent hawkish stance on Iran, accusing them of disloyalty to Trump after the 2020 election. Bannon questioned their support during what he considers the movement’s “darkest days.”
President Trump is currently considering options for supporting Israel’s actions against Iran. He recently demanded Iran’s “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER” on social media, while remaining ambiguous about potential U.S. responses, including possible airstrikes. “I may do it, I may not do it,” Trump told reporters Wednesday.
In response, iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated in a televised address that any U.S.military intervention would result in “irreparable damage.”
“We can’t have another Iraq,” Bannon warned, emphasizing the need to avoid prolonged conflicts.
Bannon also criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for seemingly expecting U.S. support in the conflict. He argued that Israel, not the U.S., should be responsible for neutralizing Iran’s nuclear capabilities, estimating that Iran is at least a year away from possessing atomic weapons. The discussion underscores the delicate balance of power and the individual role each nation plays in the region.
“The Israelis have to finish what they started. They started this. They should finish it,” Bannon said.
What’s next
The coming days will be crucial as President Trump weighs his options regarding Iran, with potential implications for regional stability and U.S.foreign policy. The role of key advisors like Bannon, and the influence of media outlets, will continue to shape the debate.
