Barcelona Close to Signing Wojciech Szczesny as Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s Replacement
According to Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”, Barcelona is nearing a deal to sign Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny as a replacement for injured German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Coach Hansi Flick is reportedly counting on Szczesny as the primary option to cover ter Stegen’s absence, with the deal potentially being completed in the coming days without any complications.
Although some Polish reports have confirmed that Szczesny, 34, will undergo a medical in Barcelona, the Catalan club has denied these claims.
Interestingly, Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, a fellow Polish citizen, is said to have played a role in convincing Szczesny to join the squad. Lewandowski reportedly spoke with Szczesny over the phone, with the goalkeeper expressing his desire for a guaranteed starting place in the squad.
Notably, Szczesny announced his retirement from international football after participating in the European Championship with Poland last year. However, he remains under contract with Juventus for another year.
