Barcelona are closing in on a historic La Liga milestone as they push for a second consecutive title under Hansi Flick, with the Opta supercomputer projecting them as favourites to win the 2025-26 championship in 60.2% of simulations.

The Blaugrana have accumulated 76 points with eight matches remaining, and a perfect run in their final fixtures would see them reach 100 points – a feat achieved only twice before in La Liga history.

Real Madrid set the benchmark first during the 2011/12 season under Jose Mourinho, finishing with 121 points, while Barcelona previously reached the 100-point mark in the 2012/13 campaign under Tito Vilanova, recording 32 wins, four draws, and two defeats.

The title race has remained intensely competitive, with Barcelona and Real Madrid exchanging the league lead 16 times this season – the most frequent changes at the top in La Liga history.

As of 25 February, Barcelona had spent more days in first place (95) than Real Madrid (92), although only Villarreal, Real Betis, and Rayo Vallecano have briefly led the table outside the two giants this season.

Barcelona won the 2024-25 title by four points over Real Madrid, but no team has retained the crown since Barcelona’s back-to-back triumphs in 2018-19, adding pressure on Flick’s side to defend their position.

The last time a team other than Barcelona or Real Madrid won La Liga was in 2020-21, when Atlético Madrid claimed the title under Diego Simeone, underscoring the duopoly’s dominance in Spanish football.

With a nine-point gap separating Real Madrid in second from Villarreal in third, the Opta supercomputer suggests an external title challenge is unlikely, leaving the championship race firmly between the two ElClasico rivals.

Should Barcelona win all eight remaining matches, they would not only secure the league title but also join an exclusive group of clubs to have reached the 100-point milestone in La Liga history.
