The 29-year-old forward moves to the reigning La Liga champions after the two clubs agreed on a fee of approximately £8.5m (10m euros), alongside potential add-ons worth €4.5m as reported by The Athletic.

Transfer Details and Financial Terms

The transfer brings an end to Jesus’s four-year spell in north London after joining Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022. Sources cited by The Athletic indicated that Jesus took a significant pay cut to facilitate the move to Spain. During his time with the Gunners, Jesus made 123 appearances across all competitions, scoring 32 goals and contributing 22 assists. However, according to Yahoo Sports, his playing time decreased in recent seasons due to persistent injury problems and the preference for Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres as the club’s central striking options.

Injury History and Arsenal Departure

Jesus missed the first three months of the 2025-26 campaign following an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in January 2025, limiting him to just three Premier League starts and six goals in 27 total appearances last season. Speaking at his first Barcelona press conference, Jesus reflected on those difficulties.

The last two years have been very tough following my knee injury. I was out for almost a year. Apart from that, I’m doing very well; I feel great physically; my knee is no longer a problem – that’s in the past. I made a full recovery and returned to play very well for Arsenal. Physically, I’m ready to give my all, just as I’ve always done in my life.

Gabriel Jesus

Prior to the transfer, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that Jesus was absent from squad training ahead of the club’s fixtures. Jesus was omitted from Arteta’s matchday squads for the Community Shield victory against Manchester City and the opening-day win over Coventry City.

Wider Summer Transfer Activity

Jesus becomes Barcelona’s third signing from a Premier League club during the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United and Rodri from Manchester City. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s attacking department faces further reduction; alongside the departure of Jesus, compatriot Gabriel Martinelli is set to join Al Hilal following a €70million agreement, according to The Athletic.
