Barcelona Target Bastoni and Julian Alvarez in Big-Money Summer Moves

Barcelona face a critical financial constraint this summer as club officials acknowledge they must generate significant sales before pursuing high-profile transfers, including reported interest in Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni and Manchester City forward Julián Álvarez.

According to sources cited by Spanish sports media, the Catalan club’s ability to sign new players is directly tied to reducing its wage bill and raising funds through player departures. Barcelona’s sporting director Deco confirmed in recent interviews that the squad requires restructuring to comply with La Liga’s financial fair play regulations, which limit spending based on revenue and solvency ratios.

The club’s current financial situation stems from years of high expenditures and limited revenue growth, exacerbated by delayed stadium renovations and fluctuating matchday income. Although Barça has improved its financial standing in recent seasons through cost control and asset sales, La Liga’s financial control framework still restricts net spending unless outgoing transfers or salary reductions create sufficient headroom.

Two players have been identified as potential exits to generate the necessary funds: Brazilian winger Raphinha and Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
