Press reports have revealed that Barcelona striker Poland Robert Lewandowski was the link in convincing his retired compatriot Wojciech Szczesny to succeed injured goalkeeper Ter Stegen.
Barcelona’s sporting administration has chosen ex-Juventus goalkeeper Szejsny as Ter Stegen’s replacement until the end of the season.
Catalan newspaper “Sport” indicated that during the process of finding a replacement for the injured German goalkeeper, Lewandowski immediately thought of his former colleague, even though the former Juventus goalkeeper had retired from the game.
According to Spanish Cadena Ser journalist Joffrey Mateo, the call between Lewandowski and the goalkeeper was the key to knowing his intentions and making a decisive move for Barcelona.
Szczesny told his friend Lewandowski that he is “comfortable in the current situation” and will not make any moves before confirming that he will start the matches.
Matteo added that during the call the Polish goalkeeper made a condition to complete all matters related to his transfer to Barcelona and the condition was his participation in the starting lineup, as he does not want to come out of retirement and join. Catalan team to sit on the bench.

Szczesny announced his final retirement from football before his contract with Juventus expired and his last participation was in the European Cup (Euro 2024) with Poland.
The former Arsenal goalkeeper agreed to terminate his contract with Juventus a year before the official expiry on June 30, 2025.
Szczesny has made 252 appearances for Juventus since joining from Roma for €18.4 million, keeping 100 clean sheets and saving nine penalty kicks with a success rate of 73%.
He also won eight titles with Juventus, winning the league 3 times, the Italian Cup 3 times and the Italian Super Cup twice.
