The January transfer window is approaching, but Barcelona is not planning any signings. The club aims to strengthen the squad in the summer of 2025 instead and will not make significant sales.
Manager Hansi Flick and director Deco have outlined a strategy focused on three key areas: left-wing, right-back, and left-back.
Options for Left-Wing
Barcelona wanted to improve the left flank last summer, targeting Nico Williams and Rafael Leao. Financial Fair Play (FFP) issues halted these plans. However, Flick and Deco still see the left-wing position as a priority. Williams and Leao remain on the shortlist along with other candidates like Leroy Sane (Bayern Munich), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Napoli), and Karim Adeyemi (Borussia Dortmund). They are also monitoring Mohamed Salah, whose contract at Liverpool will end this season.
Full-Back Slots
Barcelona attempted to sign a new right-back last summer, aiming for Joao Cancelo but unable to complete the deal. They considered Marc Pubill, but salary constraints prevented a loan with a purchase option. Despite Jules Kounde and Hector Fort performing well, the club wants to reinforce this position.
The left-back position is also a target for improvement. Barcelona is looking for a top player here, even with Alejandro Balde and Gerard Martin on the roster. Alphonso Davies, a free agent in 2025, is a favored candidate, although he might join Real Madrid. Other options being explored include Alvaro Carreras and Hugo Bueno.
