Key Trends in Irish Job Searches
Job searches on Indeed reveal significant trends in the Irish labor market as of late 2023. “Barista” topped the list for growth in job searches this year, indicating a strong demand within the hospitality sector.Following closely behind were searches for “Ireland visa sponsorship” and “hotel” positions, securing the second and third ranks respectively.
Other roles appearing in the top ten searches included “receptionist” and “kitchen porter,” further highlighting the resilience of Ireland’s hospitality industry. Notably, a significant 14% of all searches on Indeed’s Irish site originate from individuals located outside of Ireland, demonstrating the country’s increasing appeal to international workers.
The Rise of Flexible Work
The demand for flexible work arrangements continues to grow. Searches for “remote” and ”work from home” roles remain consistently high, and nearly one in five (19%) job postings in Ireland now explicitly offer remote or hybrid options. This sustains the shift toward flexible working models that accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This trend reflects a broader change in worker expectations and priorities. The most common search query on Indeed Ireland remains a “blank” search – jobseekers entering onyl a location without specifying a job title - suggesting both career exploration and uncertainty among those seeking new opportunities.
A Globally Connected Workforce
Ireland’s labor market is becoming increasingly internationalized. Currently, 42% of workers in ireland have prior foreign work experience, contributing to a diverse and skilled workforce. The increased interest in visa sponsorship opportunities underscores Ireland’s attractiveness as a destination for global talent.
These findings were released in conjunction with Indeed’s annual FutureWorks event in Dublin, where hiring professionals are gathering to discuss the future of work. The event features a keynote address from musician and activist Bob Geldof.
