Barrett Kitrell, a Class of 2027 interior offensive lineman from Ashland-Greenwood High School in Ashland, Nebraska, has emerged as a highly sought-after Power 4 football prospect while simultaneously excelling in track and field.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound athlete has garnered significant attention from major collegiate programs, including a scholarship offer from the University of Nebraska, which was confirmed via social media on January 10, 2026.

Football Recruitment and Legacy

Kitrell is viewed as a blue-chip target for Nebraska, with the program’s offensive line coach, Geep Wade, actively recruiting the in-state prospect. In addition to Nebraska, Kitrell has received offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, and South Dakota State.

The recruit carries a deep family legacy within the Nebraska football program. His father, Barry, played fullback for the Huskers from 1984 to 1988, and his brother Bo served as a fullback and tight end for the team from 2014 to 2018.

Other siblings have also competed at the collegiate level. his brother Blake played wide receiver for Tulsa, while brothers Brett and Bryce played for Ohio.

Kitrell’s recruitment has involved several visits to campus facilities. According to recruiting data, he made unofficial visits to Nebraska on February 1, March 26, and March 28, 2026, and visited Iowa on April 4, 2026. He is scheduled for an unofficial visit to Ohio State on April 11, 2026.

Multi-Sport Athleticism

Beyond the football field, Kitrell is a three-sport athlete for the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays, competing in football, basketball, and track and field.

Multi-Sport Athleticism

In track and field, Kitrell has proven to be a dominant force in the discus circle. He recently broke the Ashland-Greenwood school record for the event, achieving this feat despite competing with a broken bone in his throwing hand.

His football experience is equally substantial, having appeared in 33 games across three varsity seasons. His contributions helped the Bluejays reach the Class C1 semifinals during the most recent season.

Prospect Profile and Evaluation

Industry evaluations place Kitrell as an elite interior offensive line prospect for the 2027 class. His physical profile—6-foot-4 and 270 pounds—aligns with the requirements for high-level collegiate play.

Current recruiting trends suggest he is a primary target for Nebraska, with some reports indicating he is one of the next players who could commit to the Huskers.

  • Position: Interior Offensive Line (IOL)
  • Height: 6-4
  • Weight: 270 lbs
  • High School: Ashland-Greenwood (Ashland, NE)
  • Class: 2027

As the 2026 spring recruiting cycle progresses, Kitrell remains a focal point for Big 12 and Big Ten programs looking to secure elite interior line talent from the state of Nebraska.
