Chen Weiyin Discusses Future After Baseball Career
Chen Weiyin, a 39-year-old professional baseball player, recently spoke at the Taipei Arena about his future plans. He mentioned that he is still assessing his physical condition but feels accomplished in his career, stating, “For me, I have achieved what I want to achieve, and have no regrets.”
Chen has an impressive background with eight years in Major League Baseball and seven years in the Japanese professional league. He was recognized as the most valuable Taiwanese baseball player in history. In recent years, he played for the Long Island Cross League, appearing in 17 games, pitching 87.2 innings, and recording five wins and five losses with a 6.37 earned run average.
Reflecting on his past season, Chen compared returning to the field after two years of injury to starting anew. He acknowledged the challenges but noted that his performance improved over time, leading to better gameplay.
Regarding his next steps, Chen stated that he does not have specific plans right now, emphasizing that his decisions depend on his health. He remarked, “I can’t say that my health is not good, but not as expected.” He plans to take a relaxed approach to his future in baseball, saying, “Let’s see if there’s an opportunity to continue my playing career, no regrets.” Chen also expressed that he had not considered entering secondary vocational education at this time.
